President Obama the online underdog

By STEVE FRIESS | 7/18/12 12:00 AM EDT
President Barack Obama steps onto the campaign stage brimming with confidence and delivers the kind of rousing speeches made for TV ad sound bites.

But that confident image disappears when the Obama campaign speaks to voters by email, sending messages that sound a lot more like they’re from a desperate underdog than an incumbent commander in chief.

Just look at the subject lines: “This is potentially devastating.” “We could lose if this continues.” “Urgent.” “A big problem right now.” “I will be outspent.” “Take this seriously.”

Anyone on the Obama For America mailing list might think the president is on the brink of a landslide ouster — or perhaps that he’s so needy he’s liable to do something drastic if you don’t fork over $3.

While the messages are rooted in real-world fears that Republican Mitt Romney and his allied super PACs will outspend the incumbent president, they also create two discordant personae for the president that could pierce his famously self-assured image. It’s a stark contrast with the guy pictured in the Situation Room while U.S. forces were on a mission to kill Osama bin Laden.

It begs the question: Why look like a winner on the trail but a loser online?
“I get those emails and they’re pathetic, actually,” said Adam Hanft, who served on Obama For America’s 2008 technology task force. “I don’t understand why they show such vulnerability and desperation. It makes you feel like it’s a nonprofit. You know, ‘If you don’t give us money, we’re going to have to kill this dog or fire these people.’”

The Obama campaign failed to return messages requesting comment.

Behind each of those email titles is a missive pleading for money to counter Romney’s war chest. In all, OFA has emailed 42 fundraising pitches since the beginning of June.

But Obama’s online game is also inviting ridicule.

Jon Stewart lampooned the overly personal, casual tone of the emails earlier this year. TheHairpin.com strung together subject lines to make the president sound like a stalker, and countless observers have giggled at such fundraising antics as suggesting someone add Obama donations to their wedding registry. They’re even meticulously cataloged by bloggers.

And with Romney’s email posture far less agonized — perhaps because his fundraising is going gangbusters — the contrast opens the way for a political jab. “Romney takes a more businesslike approach to everything he does,” GOP pollster and messaging guru Frank Luntz told POLITICO in an email. “It’s just who he is.”

Inside-the-Beltway strategists from both sides empathize with the Obama team’s need to create a sense of urgency to solicit donations. Alarmism has always been a key motivator in campaign fundraising; people don’t feel as compelled to give if the sky is firmly in place and the candidate appears to be in good shape, they say.

People who are on Obama’s list but aren’t donors are receiving more desperate-sounding emails simply because, well, that ploy works,” said Republican strategist Vincent Harris, who ran the digital campaigns for the GOP presidential bids of Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich. “There’s no doubt this causes some conflicting messaging in terms of the campaign seeming cool and calm while sounding the alarm to their email list. This, though, is the best tactic to raise money online and grow their donor file, the largest political one in the world.”

Still, just because this is something that has always worked doesn’t mean it fits well in the new media landscape. The established method existed before the explosion of social media made it easy to turn a sad-sack, pitiful email plea into a snarky tweet to be mocked widely. In this new world, a narrowly targeted message can easily become a piece of the broader campaign’s voice.

The potential is there for a short-term gain of new donations that could produce a long-term loss of face.

It depends on how to define ‘works,’” said digital communications professor Anthony Rotolo at Syracuse University’s iSchool. “If the Obama campaign sends out an hysterical email, sure they’re going to raise money that way, but it’s no longer happening in a bubble. CNN or POLITICO or someone is going to pick that kind of thing up. The image of the campaign is going to suffer because those conversations aren’t happening in a vacuum. The possibility of that message bleeding over is in everybody’s hands.”
In the process, Obama’s brand could suffer.

“Years ago, it did not matter,” said Michael Robinson, a former Department of Justice and SEC spokesman whose firm, Levick Strategic Communications, advises companies on their public image. “If you were a member of the National Rifle Association or People for the American Way and you got direct mail or a phone call, it stayed between you and the candidate. But now we live in a digital world. Anything you say to anyone anywhere is everywhere.”

This attention to Obama’s Web demeanor is also evidence of how times have changed for online campaigns. Just two presidential cycles ago, John Kerry’s campaign digital strategist Michael Bassik crafted Internet messages in isolation, and they rarely gained notice from anyone beyond their intended targets.

“We had [President George W.] Bush on a horse and Kerry on the ground and there was a lasso, and Kerry was lassoing Bush off the horse with a message to please donate $25 today,” recalled Bassik of one animated banner ad. “It was a completely funny disconnect between the imagery of the traditional and digital.”

Not anymore. The problem for strategists, however, is how to know when the online fundraising messages taint the real-world campaign in an untenable way.

For the first time, you’re seeing the convergence in that the social media message is different than the overall confident campaign message,” said Joe Trippi, campaign manager for Howard Dean’s highly tech-savvy 2004 presidential run. “This may be the first time you can actually see it, so there’s no way to know how one will impact the other.”

Obama opens his Chicago home to supporters
By Ken Thomas on August 12, 2012

CHICAGO (AP) — The red-brick Georgian Revival home was gleaming: An American flag extended from the porch, the evergreen trees surrounding the yard were pruned and the red impatiens and begonias were blooming. Guests mingled at tables covered with stylish lime-colored tablecloths and listened to light jazz before their host said a few words.

Just a nice summertime garden party on a Sunday — along with beefy Secret Service agents, the buzz of a motorcade waiting outside, and a black pole extending high over the corner of the property, dotted with surveillance equipment and cameras.

"Welcome to my house!" said President Barack Obama, greeting donors at his South Side home. "I have to say, the lawn hasn't looked this good in a while. But I figured, but at least Michelle figured, that if everyone was coming over we ought to neaten up a little bit."

Obama opened up his home in Chicago's Kenwood neighborhood for a marquee fundraiser, welcoming about 75 of his top donors who wished the president a belated happy birthday — No. 51 — and gave big bucks to his re-election campaign. It was part of a full day of hometown fundraising for Obama, who was expected to haul in $3.5 million to $4 million to fuel his campaign against Republican Mitt Romney.

The president was among friends, noting that many in the audience knew him "when I barely owned a suit," a reference to his time as a community organizer during the mid-1980s. "This place is where I learned about the importance of bringing communities together to solve problems."

Michelle Obama wasn't there, instead raising money for her husband's campaign at events in Los Angeles. But the president reminded guests that she was born and raised in Chicago, where they met and started a family. "I think it's fair to say I'm an adopted son of the South Side."

Obama's weekend fundraising trip had all the trappings of a local homecoming, right down to the crowds gathered by the nearby Pancake House to cheer on his motorcade on Saturday night and a banner hanging on a fence a few blocks from his home that said, "Happy Birthday President Obama."

The weekend offered a rare two-night stay for Obama at his house. The president stayed at a hotel during NATO meetings in June because of security concerns. He arrived on Saturday afternoon and met advisers at his Chicago campaign headquarters, then grabbed dinner with friends at a local eatery called Piccolo Sogno Due, which means "Little Dream 2" in Italian.

During his Chicago sojourn, his motorcade swept past Grant Park several times, letting him look at the park where throngs of supporters cheered his victory on election night in 2008. He could look out the window and see Soldier Field, home of his beloved Chicago Bears, and watch the final day of the Olympic Games on television.

Making his own Olympic analogy, Obama told his donors — most of whom paid $40,000 per person to attend — that the 2012 election wasn't going to turn out like a Usain Bolt race, referring to the dominant Jamaican sprinter who was so fast he could jog to the finish line. "We're going to have to run through the tape. But we're really well positioned to not just win but to keep America moving forward."

By dusk, with temperatures in the mid-70s, the president was ready for an evening stroll.

His next fundraiser was at the home of Marty Nesbitt, one of his closest friends, followed by another at the home of Barbara Bowman, the mother of Valerie Jarrett, a longtime adviser and friend.

Nesbitt's home was so close that the president decided to walk, slinging his black blazer over his left shoulder while he was trailed by Secret Service agents and his entourage. He shook hands with cheering neighbors and gave a local TV crew a presidential shout-out for his favorite baseball team, the Chicago White Sox.

"Nice to be home?" shouted a member of the press corps.

"It's always nice to be home," Obama said. "A little cooler than Washington, isn't it?"

The Rezko Connection: Obama's Achilles Heel?

By BRIAN ROSS (@brianross) and RHONDA SCHWARTZ
Jan. 10, 2008

In sharp contrast to his tough talk about ethics reform in government, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., approached a well-known Illinois political fixer under active federal investigation, Antoin "Tony" Rezko, for "advice" as he sought to find a way to buy a house shortly after being elected to the United States Senate.

The parcel included an adjacent lot which Obama told the Chicago Tribune he could not afford because "it was already a stretch to buy the house."

On the same day Obama closed on his house, Rezko's wife bought the adjacent empty lot, meeting the condition of the seller who wanted to sell both properties at the same time.

Rezko had been widely reported to be under investigation by the U.S. attorney and the FBI at the time Obama contacted him and has since been indicted on corruption charges by a federal grand jury in a case that prosecutors say involves bribes, kickbacks and "efforts to illegally obtain millions of dollars."

This week, a federal judge in Chicago ordered the Rezko trial to begin Feb. 25.

Obama maintains his relationship with Rezko was "above board and legal" but has admitted bad judgment, calling his decision to involve Rezko "a bone-headed mistake."

Rezko's behind-the-scenes connection in the Obama house deal became public as Rezko revealed personal financial details as he sought to post bail.

While Rezko's wife paid the full asking price for the land, Obama paid $300,000 under the asking price for the house. The house sold for $1,650,000 and the price Rezko's wife paid for the land was $625,000.

Obama denies there was anything unusual about the price disparity. He says the price on the house was dropped because it had been on the market for some time but that the price for the adjacent land remained high because there was another offer.

Obama then expanded his property by buying a strip of the Rezko land for $104,5000, which the senator maintains was a fair market price.

Obama later told the Chicago Sun-Times, "It was a mistake to have been engaged with him at all in this or any other personal business dealing that would allow him, or anyone else, to believe he had done me a favor."

Obama had known Rezko long before the house deal, calling him a "friend."

An ABC News review of campaign records shows Rezko, and people connected to him, contributed more than $120,000 to Obama's 2004 campaign for the U.S. Senate, much of it at a time when Rezko was the target of an FBI investigation.

"It surprised me that late in the game he [Obama] continued to take contributions from somebody who was under a rather dark cloud in the state," said Cynthia Canary of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform, a group that has worked closely with Obama and supported his legislative efforts.

In the wake of the Rezko indictment, Obama says he has given $44,000 of the Rezko-connected money to charity.

There is no mention of Obama in the Rezko indictment. Federal authorities say the investigation is focused on Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, identified in court filings as Public Figure A.

Obama's Strange Dependence on Valerie Jarrett
By Karin McQuillan
August 14, 2012
The American Thinker

President Obama canceled the operation to kill Osama bin Laden three times before saying yes, because he got cold feet about the possible political harm to himself if the mission failed. Instead of listening to advisors from the U.S. military, Defense, or even State, Obama was acting on the advice of White House politico and close friend Valerie Jarrett. Valerie Jarrett?

This account comes from Richard Miniter's upcoming book Leading From Behind: The Reluctant President and the Advisors who Decide for Him. Miniter has written a half-dozen books on the war on terror. He is relying on an unnamed source within the U.S. military Joint Special Operations Command who was directly involved in the operation and planning of the Osama bin Laden kill mission.

Is the story credible? According to Edward Klein, a reporter once asked Obama if he ran every decision by Jarrett. Obama answered, "Yep. Absolutely."

Edward Klein, former foreign editor of Newsweek and editor of the New York Times Magazine for many years, describes Jarrett as "ground zero in the Obama operation, the first couple's friend and consigliere." Klein -- who claims he used a minimum of two sources for each assertion in his book on the Obama presidency, The Amateur -- writes in detail about Jarrett opposing the raid on bin Laden. She told Obama not to take the political risk. Klein thought Obama ignored Jarrett's advice. Miniter tells us he listened to her, three times telling Special Operations not to take the risk to go after bin Laden.

We need to understand the role Valerie Jarrett plays in Obama's private and political life.

"If it wasn't for Valerie Jarrett, there'd be no Barack Obama to complain about," starts Klein's chapter on Jarrett. He quotes Michelle Obama on Jarrett's influence over her husband: "She knows the buttons, the soft spots, the history, the context."

No one outside Michelle has the access or power over Obama's decision-making like Jarrett does. Here's an odd little fact that gives some insight into what kind of president Obama is: Michelle, Michelle's mother, and Valerie, and only a few others in Washington, are allowed to call Barack by his first name. After work, Jarrett joins Obama at night in the Family Quarters, where she dines often with the First Family. She goes on vacation with them.

Jarrett's title is the weird mouthful "Assistant to the President for Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs." She is the gatekeeper, but she is also much more than that. She occupies Karl Rove's and Hillary's old office and has an all-access pass to meetings. She shows up at the National Security Council, at meetings on the economy and budget. She stays behind to advise Obama on what to think and do. Obama uses her as his left-wing conscience. Klein's sources describe how at each pressing issue, Obama turns to ask her, "What do you think the right thing to do is?" As president, he likes to have her next to him "as the voice of authentic blackness in a White House that is staffed largely by whites."

A longtime friend told Klein that Jarrett is the "eyes, ears and nose" of the Obamas. She tells them whom to trust, who is saying what, whom to see at home and abroad. Michelle wants her there: "I told her ... it would give me a sense of comfort to know that (Barack) had somebody like her there by his side." As Obama told the New York Times, "Valerie is one of my oldest friends. ... I trust her completely."

To understand why Obama relies so heavily on Jarrett, we must remember the president's identity crisis as a black man, which is the main subject of his memoir, Dreams from My Father. Valerie Jarrett's adoption of the Obamas as her friends and protégés in Chicago's upper-crust black society was one of the greatest things that ever happened to Obama. Until becoming a community organizer, Obama tells us he felt himself to be an inauthentic American black. Nothing in his life helped him understand or fit into the American black community.

Within a few weeks of Obama's birth, conceived out of wedlock as he was, his mother moved away to a different college, leaving Obama's African birth father behind in Honolulu. There may have been a shotgun wedding or not -- in the memoir, Obama says he is not sure. The only time Barack set eyes on his father was a brief visit when he was ten. Our president lived with his white mother, then with her and her Indonesian husband in Indonesia from age six to ten. He was so unhappy that he chose to leave his mother and live with his white grandparents back in America. Obama's America was the tolerant, wealthy American world of Honolulu's top prep school.

His only black experience was his grandfather's creepy old friend, Frank Marshall, a card-carrying Communist and self-disclosed pederast, who was Obama's voice of authentic blackness. One result of this lonely and unhappy childhood as a mixed-race child was Barack Obama's envy problem. The key to understanding Jarrett's power over the president is that Obama didn't just envy people with normal parents and loving, successful fathers. He envied American blacks, especially those who grew up in intact black families, knowing who they were, comfortable in their black skin.

Valerie Jarrett reflects Obama in many ways. Like himself, Valerie looks more white than black. Her mother had three white grandparents, and her father was black. Like Obama, she lived in the Muslim world for part of her childhood, when her father practiced medicine in Iran. Like Obama, she is a committed leftist. But there are crucial differences. Her father was not a drunk Kenyan polygamist like Obama's, but a famous pathologist and geneticist. Her mother was not a leftist expatriate like Obama's, but a distinguished psychologist. Valerie married into Chicago's black elite, the top rung of African-American society. She went to Stanford, got a law degree from Michigan, and became Mayor Richard Daley's deputy chief of staff, "the public black face" of his administration.

When Valerie Jarrett hired Michelle to work for Daley and befriended her, the Obamas gained access to the exclusive world of upper-class black Chicago politics. Valerie knew everyone whom it was important to know in black and Jewish money circles. She gave Barack entrée and legitimacy. She financed and promoted his ambitions for national office.

Obama finally belonged. Not that Jarrett's record in Chicago was anything to be proud of. Jarrett was known for her corruption and incompetence. Daley finally had to fire her after a scandal erupted over her role in misuse of public funds in the city's substandard public housing. She went on to become CEO of Habitat Executive Services, pulling down $300,000 in salary and $550,000 in deferred compensation. Again, she managed a housing complex that was seized by government inspectors for slum conditions. The scandal didn't matter to Obama. The sordid corruption was all part of Jarrett's Chicago success story.

Every insider in Chicago told Klein the same thing: Jarrett has no qualifications to be the principal advisor to the president of the United States. She doesn't understand how Washington works, how relations with Congress work, how the federal process works. She doesn't understand how the economy works, how the military works, how national security works. But she understands how Obama works.

The president turns to Valerie Jarrett for definitive advice on all these issues. She has given him terrible advice over and over, and still he turns to her.

Her true job is to make Obama feel proud of himself. When Obama looks at Jarrett, he sees himself as whole and good and real. He is no longer the fake black, the fatherless kid flailing around in a white world, tortured by the unfairness of it all. She fills the emptiness at the core of his identity. She admires and adores him. Jarrett told New Yorker editor David Remnick that the president is "just too talented to do what ordinary people do." And the icing on the cake -- she shares his left-wing politics that project unfairness out onto white America.

Obama relies on Jarrett to create the White House bubble he likes to live in, where his narcissism is stroked and his desire to do the big, left-wing thing is encouraged. Jarrett is the doorman. She runs access to the president. As Klein puts it, she guards him from meeting with "critics and complainers who might deflate his ego." No one gets past Jarrett who has an incompatible point of view.

Jarrett pushed ObamaCare. At the beginning of Obama's presidency, there was pressure on Obama to focus on the economic crisis. Rahm Emanuel advised a small, bipartisan health care reform with popular items such as coverage for young adults -- to get it passed quickly and focus on the country's money problems. Jarrett urged the president to be true to his left-wing agenda. She was all for having Reid-Pelosi create the ObamaCare assault on the American health system and ramming it through on a one-party vote, using Chicago-style politics, while Obama crossed the country doing what he does best: make speeches. Obama liked Jarrett's idea. Emanuel is now out of the White House.

Jarrett pushed the Solyndra fiasco. Jarrett promoted Solyndra because one of her richest Chicago connections, billionaire George Kaiser, a top Obama bundler, had a 35% share in Solyndra. Kaiser visited the White House sixteen times.

Larry Summers, the director of the president's National Economic Council, warned Obama that the federal government should not get involved in venture capital of any sort. Summers understood that crony capitalism sabotages economic growth. Huge government funding distorts and destroys whatever market segment it touches, replacing economic decisions with political ones.

A member of Obama's finance committee warned the president that Solyndra was going bankrupt. But it is Obama and Valerie who see eye to eye, and they saw the value to Obama of rewarding his political cronies. It worked fine in Chicago. Larry Summers is now out of the White House.

Jarrett pushed Obama to take on the Catholic Church over contraception, arguing that it would appeal to single women (she was right) and that religious freedom isn't important (she was wrong). Bill Daley, who had replaced Rahm Emmanuel as chief of staff, argued against Obama pushing contraception on the Church and invited Archbishop Timothy Cardinal Dolan of New York to meet with a displeased Obama, who didn't appreciate hearing from the Church. Daley is now out of the White House.

Valerie Jarrett is the most powerful woman in Washington. She has guided the president's decisions on health care, the budget, the stimulus, the deficit, foreign affairs.

So when Jarrett told Obama that the mission to kill bin Laden was too politically risky, and to play it safe, it is entirely plausible to believe that the president listened to her. It is consistent with everything we know about Obama's dependence on her. According to Miniter's source in the U.S. Military Joint Special Operations Command, Obama listened to her for four months, dithering and deciding no the first three times the military told him that the time to get bin Laden was now.

In The Amateur, Klein reports that another worry won out. Obama was even more scared of the political fallout if voters learned he'd passed up the chance to get bin Laden. What decided him wasn't the national interest, but politics. For once, the president disagreed with Valerie Jarrett.

Mangan a una trabajadora de Obama for America instruyendo a un individuo en como votar mas de una vez...

Caught on Tape: Salaried Obama Campaign Worker Helps Undercover Reporter Vote Twice
By Katie Pavlich
10/10/2012 New video from Project Veritas shows an Obama for America campaign staffer providing advice and a ballot to an undercover reporter posing as an Obama activist about how to vote twice in the upcoming presidential election. The activist tells Obama for America Houston Director Stephanie Caballero, who is a salaried employee of the Democratic National Committee, she wants to vote in Texas and in Florida.

Former DOJ Attorney Christian Adams explains the legality of the situation.

Obama campaign attorney Robert Bauer should be emailing memos to every paid staffer detailing 42 USC 1973i(e) and 42 USC § 1973gg–10(2). The former federal law makes it illegal to vote twice. The latter law prohibits fraudulent voting in a federal election. 18 USC 2 makes it illegal to aid and abet election fraud.

Encouraging voter participation of marginal legality is nothing new for the Obama campaign. In 2008, they had an elaborate web portal for college students, encouraging some to register to vote where they went to school, discouraging others. The overall goal was to get students attending college in battleground states registered to vote in those states regardless of their actual domicile. If a student from a battleground state went to college in a safe red or blue state, they were encouraged to keep their registration in their home battleground state.

The Obama campaign website in 2008 never told the students to cancel their original voter registration. Nor did it provide guidelines for what constituted bona fide domicile.

Currently, voter watchdog groups like True the Vote are conducting data crunching to determine who may have violated federal election law in 2008 by voting in two states for President. If someone does it again in 2012, it will eventually be caught thanks to the efforts of private parties combing voter rolls.

The Obama for America will spin this story by throwing Caballero under the bus and will say she is an inexperienced staffer. The problem is, Caballero is the director of the Obama for America Houston office pulling a salary. Caballero isn't an inexperienced staffer or volunteer, not to mention, Caballero's response to the questions about voting twice should have been, "You can't do that and it's illegal." Instead, Caballero giggled and encouraged double voting in Texas and the swing state of Florida.

UPDATE: Watchdog.org has more information about the violation of statutes.

Federally, 42 USC § 1973gg is the strongest as it penalizes attempts to deprive residents of a fair election through false voter registration forms. 42 USC 1973i(c) is your other strong bet. There are more (like the antiquated 18 USC 597), but these 1973gg and 1973i(c) are your strongest federal options.

Remember, policing election integrity occurs first at the state level, then goes up to the federal level. Under Texas law, pay attention to Section 273.001 of the Texas Election Code. It provides that if two or more registered voters present affidavits alleging criminal conduct in connection with the election to the county prosecutor, he shall investigate the matter. If the conduct concerns activities beyond one county, the state attorney general may be properly involved. And Texas imposes duties upon state registrars to ensure that voter registration forms are complete and true -- see Tex. Elec. Code 15.021, 15.112, 15.051(a). Texas election law also permits voting contests to occur when there is evidence of fraud or mistake in connection with the administration of an election (e.g. registering false voters). See Tex. Elec. Code 221.003

Report: Obama aides ignoring potential $150M fraud by Chicago Transit Authority

President Obama’s Department of Transportation (DOT) has reportedly ignored information that the Chicago Transit Authority, which used to employ the president’s closest advisor, has defrauded taxpayers by as much as $150 million.

Cause of Action (CoA), a government corruption watchdog, “uncovered the potential of up to $150 million in taxpayer funds being improperly awarded to the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) due to CTA’s potentially fraudulent reporting dating as far back as 1982 and possibly continuing to the present,” according to a report released today. Cause of Action bases that figure on an audit that indicates CTA received $1-5 million in 2006 alone by providing the Transportation Department with false information.

The watchdog group explained how the alleged fraud works: The federal government subsidizes transit systems under the Urbanized Area Formula Program. The funding that transit systems receives increases or decreases in part based on the number of Vehicle Revenue Miles are driven by the transit system. Obama’s hometown transit system manipulated the federal program by over-reporting the number of Vehicle Revenue Miles (VRM) that it drives annually, according to Cause of Action.

DOT inspector general Calvin Scovel was “informed of the fraud in 2009″ but “to our knowledge, no federal investigation has taken place,” Cause of Action said. The Justice Department also knows if the report. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee was informed in 2011.

CTA has close ties to the White House and Obama’s Transportation Department.

Robert. S. Rivkin, the current General Counsel of [DOT] was General Counsel of the Chicago Transit Authority from 2001 to 2004, during the time CTA was likely overreporting its VRM,” CoA says.

Moreover, Valerie Jarrett — Obama’s close friend and senior advisor — served as chair of CTA from 1995 to 2003. “As of April 2009, Jarrett was still receiving deferred compensation from the Chicago Transit Authority,” CoA noted. Earlier this year, the New York Times dubbed Jarrett “the other power in the West Wing.”

Cause of Action suggested that these relationships may have sheltered CTA from investigation thus far. “[S]everal individuals formerly and currently involved with CTA and DOT have connections that raise questions concerning the propriety of any investigation (or lack thereof) into CTA’s overreporting of VRM,” CoA says.

The watchdog group has filed Freedom of Information Act requests for any information pertaining to the investigation that Scovel had told them would take place, but the Transportation Department and the inspector general both failed to respond within the federally-required time frame.

Esto es del: http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/264529-obama-names-deficit-immigration-education-as-priorities-in-second-administration:
Obama said he would also like to see the creation of a Secretary of Business.

"I’ve said that I want to consolidate a whole bunch of government agencies. We should have one Secretary of Business, instead of nine different departments that are dealing with things like giving loans to SBA [the Small Business Administration] or helping companies with exports. There should be a one-stop shop," Obama said. "Now the reason we haven’t done that is not because of some big ideological difference; it has to do with Congress talking a good game about wanting to streamline government but being very protective about not giving up their jurisdiction over various pieces of government."

Estan bromeando??? Otro nivel de burocracia para que todospuedan evadir responsabilidad por sus actos????
